Hi, I’m Adam.

This is me in Yosemite!

Who I am and how I got here

Hello! My name is Adam Patwa. I’m an educator, storyteller, father, writer and designer, who likes hiking!

I have over 15 years experience teaching college writing and research. To help broaden my professional opportunities, I recently began learning User Experience Design, which took me through two separate online bootcamps learning about the theory, practices, and many tools employed by user experience researchers and designers across various industries.

One of my first realizations when embarking on this journey was the similarities that exist between the design process and the writing process, and this is something I rely on as an educator and writer.

Some self-professed facts that are relevant to this journey I’m on:

  • I love ideas and talking about them, see the idea or concept from as many angles or perspectives as I can.

  • Following from this, I enjoy explaining what I see to others, especially when they can’t seem to see it.

  • I love discovering what I don’t know — Research! If something is knowable yet out of reach, (and of interest to me) it will become something of an obsession, for better or worse ;)

  • And from this, I’ve learned that I love when the answers are NOT black and white. I really enjoy navigating the grey, where the connections or patterns aren’t obvious and require a bit of critical and (hopefully) creative analysis.

Where am I headed

I will be the first to tell you that I have a lot to learn about this field. However, the process of learning becomes less of a burden when it is perceived as another type of process that can be integrated into existing processes at work. This is something that excites me, and I hope to join a vibrant team of diverse individuals who feel similarly.

Teaching is very rewarding but can feel bereft of peer-to-peer collaboration, and I think this is something I’ve been missing in my professional life. I’m hoping to work on a team, brainstorming and collaborating together for the sake of a common goal.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and please reach out below if you know of any connections to help me on this journey!

Thanks,
AP
